NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers at Minnesota Timberwolves

The Hollywood Reporter is… err… reporting that Lebron James will be producing a reboot of House Party. The project will be co-produced by James’ longtime friend and business partner Maverick Carter with Atlanta’s Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori writing the script. During his session with THR, James said the following:

“This is definitely not a reboot. It’s an entirely new look for a classic movie,” James tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Everyone I grew up with loved House Party. To partner with this creative team to bring a new House Party to a new generation is unbelievable.”

I have no idea if James knows this but “an entirely new look at a classic film” means “reboot” but I guess semantics be damned. Anytime news like this breaks I ask the same question: who asked for this and do we really need it? The answer this time around is an emphatic no. Just… no. I appreciate the fact that James holds the House Party franchise in high regard but there is no way to make this work logistically. The original film, in all its awesome cheesiness, worked because of the cast. What rap duo will James and his crew cast for the Kid and Play characters? 2/3rds of the Migos? Will Full Force be played by Rich Gang? I’m sorry this is just a terrible, terrible idea.

Furthermore, this isn’t the 90’s. Times have changed dramatically. House Party worked then because of where we were as a culture. I am about 157 years old at this point so excuse my ignorance, do house parties even exist at this point? Are the kids having pajama jammy jams in 2018? Will the party in this movie feature kids with jeans that are five sizes too small hanging off their asses? Is everyone going to have a red solo cup full of lean? I NEED ANSWERS, King James! ANSWERS!!! Why can’t those with influence innovate instead of imitating? Whelp, I guess we just have to wait and see how this will all turn out.
