Recently, Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder announced that the beloved Adult Swim series The Boondocks will be returning. The show’s critically acclaimed original run was known for it’s hilarious and pointed social commentary. The Boondocks left no subject untouched, dedicating episodes to how Martin Luther King Jr would react to the current state of black America, the foolishness of the R-Kelly trial, BET’s covert mission to destroy us all, and much more.
During an interview with the Joe Rogan Podcast, John Witherspoon, who played the lead characters Huey and Riley’s hilarious grandfather on the show, stated he will be returning as the belt wielding disciplinary when the show returns. Currently, there is no word on if any other members of the original cast will be returning, but my fingers are crossed that Regina King (the voice of both Huey and Reily), Gary Anthony Williams (Uncle Rukus) are able to reprise their roles as well. The reboot is tentatively scheduled for 2020 and no network has been announced.
The Official Boondocks Instagram, @boondocksbootleg, recently posted exclusive images of the new character designs for Huey and Grandad. Check them out below:
