Retired NBA player Dwyane Wade has been making headlines as of late due to his unwavering support of his daughter Zaya Wade. Zaya was born a boy but has embraced a new identity as a girl. D. Wade has been heralded for his acceptance of his daughter,  allowing her to live in the manner she chooses. Among the African-American community, this is somewhat unprecedented. Based on personal experience we (black folks) sometimes have a tendency to shun that which we don’t fully understand and for D. Wade to be such a public figure and to champion his daughters cause in this manner is seldom seen.

Though D. Wade has been praised for his actions not everyone has proven to be as accepting. Scores of ignorant folks have exclaimed their distaste for how the Wades have chosen to deal with this. In the past, we wouldn’t know or care what those people have to say, but in 2020 we have the gift (or curse) of social media. Now every idiot has a voice, albeit not a loud one. Well, until now: enter patient zero for the idiotavirus: Boosie Badazz:

Listening to his post, Boosie sounds like it’s his dick that’s going to be cut off. The amount of emotion that Boosie has about this is perplexing. Come to think of it, it’s no surprise that someone who has spent so much time in jail would be obsessed with protecting dicks. I’m not sure Captain Save-a-dick needed to hop into action here, Mr. Badass… please take your cape off.

Now, there are several things wrong with Boosie’s “take”. The first of which is the fact that you can’t get a sex change until you’re 18. So Boosie’s ranting about “don’t cut his dick off” is both sad and hilarious all the same. Never mind the fact that in all of D. Wade’s interviews on this topic I haven’t once heard him say anything about cutting anything off. I have no idea where Boosie got that from. Also, and I think this is the biggest point: why does Boosie care? I’m piling on Boosie here but the amount of black folks up in arms over this is alarming. It has always struck me as odd when black people essentially take the same stance as the racist we claim to hate. Screaming on social media about how deplorable white people at Trump rallies are and then using the same hate speech to denigrate D. Wade and his daughter is hypocrisy of the highest order.

I realize it’s hard to make sense of things you don’t understand. I’m no different, I don’t understand what it means to feel you were born in the wrong body. The difference between myself and people like Boosie (other than self-awareness and the use of chapstick) is that I understand it isn’t for me to understand. As long as Zaya is safe, happy, and not harming herself or anyone else it’s not of my business. If we all spent more time minding our own, this world would be a better place.

While Boosie is chastising D. Wade for how he is choosing to raise his daughter, I would be remiss if I didn’t remind everyone that this is the same guy who had this to say on his son’s 14th birthday:

There is no telling if Boosie actually did this or not. Lord knows what kind of damage it could do to a child but one thing we have all learned is the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree:

Let’s not even talk about why this child thinks it’s ok to speak like this. Unlike Boosie. I’m not going to go on a rant about what’s happening in another man’s home…

If I had to choose between getting my kid a bad bitch to show them what that mouth do or supporting my child unconditionally, I think I know which I would choose.
